Temporary Base for Storing Firewood

We’ve taken on a licence with Hyndburn Borough Council to use a site in Accrington.  This is our temporary base where we’re storing firewood.

Himalayan Balsam removal

Over the summer months we’ve primarily been working to help eradicate Himalayan Balsam from a number of public sites across Hyndburn. These include Whinney Hill Greenspace, Huncoat, Clayton Forest Park, Abbott Clough and Rushton House Farm.

Chainsaw Course

We ran a chainsaw course at Whinney Hill.  We had four participants who all passed! We Joined the ‘Making Local Woods Work’ Programme!

We were successful in an application to join the Plunkett Foundation‘s ‘Making Local Woods Work’ programme. The support is advisory and aimed at increasing the capacity of the business.

Thining & Installing Bird Boxes at Whinney Hill

From December 2016 onwards we were working on the Whinney Hill Green Space site in Accrington. The work involved thinning an existing woodland and installing bird boxes, waymarkers and benches

Hazel Coppice Thining at Clayton Forest Park

We carried on with some thinning at Clayton Forest Park in the Hazel Coppice section.  This was to reduce the canopy cover to a suitable percentage in order to help the hazel regenerate.

Winter Thining

This winter we won a tender to thin woodland off Royds Street in Woodnook and below King George Playing Fields for Hyndburn Borough Council.  This started in December 2015 and lasted throughout the winter.

Hazel Coppice Thining

We thinned a 2 hectare area of the Clayton Forest Park in Clayton-le-Moors.  This large site was planted by Hyndburn Borough Council as part of their Urban Forestry Scheme back in the 1980/90s and with foresight they planted a 2 hectare hazel coppice with standards.
